They found a body inside the vehicle, which was later identified as missing local teen Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
Police said her remains were not intact, and she appeared to have been dead for some time.
Rivas Hernandez was reported missing from a town south-east of LA in 2024.
She would have turned 15 the day before her body was found in the car.
The teen had a tattoo on her finger that read “Shhh”. Burke has the same tattoo on one of his fingers.
Local media has reported the pair met online.
LAPD confirmed Burke was arrested “for the murder of Celeste Rivas” on Thursday (local time). He’s expected to be charged early next week.
