The musical thriller ‘Emilia Pérez’ received the most nominations, with 13. It’s the most Oscar nominations ever given to a non-English language film.

Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón, who plays Emilia, became the first openly trans performer to be nominated for Best Actress.

The next most-nominated films were ‘The Brutalist’ and ‘Wicked’, with 10 each.

Australian Oscar nominations

Australian actor Guy Pearce has received his first Oscar nomination. Pearce was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in ‘The Brutalist’.

Film-makers Adam Elliot and Liz Kearney were nominated in the category of Best Animated Film for ‘Memoir of a Snail’. Elliot has been nominated and won once before, for his 2004 short film ‘Harvie Krumpet’.

Cinematographer Greig Fraser received a nomination for his work on ‘Dune: Part Two’. He previously won an Oscar for ‘Dune: Part One’.

2025 Oscars

The announcement of this year’s Academy Award nominations was delayed twice due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, which have killed at least 28 people.

Voting for the awards is open toof the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, hence the ceremony’s official name, The Academy Awards.

The 97th Oscars will be held from 11am on 3 March (AEDT).
