Authorities have arrested a Sydney man over the ClubsNSW data breach believed to have affected one million Australians.

A Sydney man was charged with blackmail over the data breach affecting NSW and ACT hospitality venues.

IT company Outabox provides sign-in services for several pubs and clubs. On Thursday, it confirmed a breach potentially affecting more than a million Australians across at least 16 venues.

The Outabox systems compile personalincluding license details, phone numbers, and home addresses.

ClubsNSW data breach

ClubsNSW, which manages the affected, held an emergency meeting on Thursday and a police investigation was launched.

Cybercrime detectives were alerted to a website publishing the personal information of people who had used Outabox’s sign-in services.

On Thursday afternoon, a 46-year-old man was arrested at a home in Sydney’s west. He was charged with blackmail before being released on bail and is due to appear in court next month.
