Former NRL player Jarryd Hayne has successfully appealed to have his sexual assault conviction quashed.
It comes more than a year after the formerstar was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in 2018 and sentenced to a maximum of four years and nine months in prison.
The judge in the appeal court ordered a new trial. If this happens, it would be the fourth trial in this case.
Hayne continues to deny the allegations against him.

Hayne was accused of assaulting a then-26-year-old woman at her Newcastle home in 2018.
Hayne pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual intercourse without consent in April 2023.

After a jury found him guilty, he wasto a maximum of four years and nine months in prison.
The sentence was backdated to take into account the nine months Hayne had previously spent in jail for the same incident.
Trials and successful appeal
Last year’s trial and subsequent guilty verdict was Hayne’s third trial over this incident.
The first trial resulted in a hung jury. The second trial resulted in a guilty verdict and Hayne spent time in jail, but was freed after he successfully appealed the guilty verdict.
Hayne has been in custody since last year’s guilty verdict. He was eligible for parole from May next year.
Hayne launched an appeal in the NSW Criminal Court of Appeal.
