Victoria is bracing for “incredibly difficult” fire conditions today, with temperatures forecast to reach the high 30s in most parts of the state, and up to the mid 40s in the north-west.

Around 30,000 Victorians have been told to evacuate their homes, ahead of what Premier Jacinta Allen said is “likely to be one of the most dangerous fire days Victoria has experienced in recent years.”

Today’s high temperatures will be accompanied by widespread strong wind gusts, according to the Country Fire Authority (CFA).

Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said conditions are expected to worsen into the afternoon, with warnings of dry lightning, and wind gusts of up to 80km/h expected in some parts.

NSW fire crews are also intoday to assist with an out-of-control blaze in Bayindeen, near Ballarat.

The bushfire has burned through more than 21,000 hectares and destroyed multiple properties since last week.
