British actor Russell Brand has been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault following an 18-month police investigation.
The 50-year-old is alleged to have sexually assaulted four different women on separate occasions between 1999 and 2005.
Brand is expected to appear before a London court next month.
In a video posted to social media, Brand denied the charges.
Allegations
In 2023, the UK’s Sunday Times and Channel 4 jointly published reports alleging Brand had sexually assaulted and emotionally abused at least four women.

On Friday, police announced they had pressed charges against the actor based on these accusations.
Lead investigator, Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, said the “women who have made reports continue to receive support” as the case progresses towards trial.
Brand
In a video statement posted to social media, Brand said the charges are a demonstration of the law being used as a “weapon” against him.
He said he intends to “defend these charges in court.”
“I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile, but what I never was, was a rapist. I’ve never engaged in non-consensual activity, I pray that you can see that,” Brand said.
