The Labor Party has won the 2025 federal election, and is projected to secure more seats than it did in 2022.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton lost his seat and will leave Parliament.

Here's what you should know.

Labor result

As at 11.45pm, the Australian Electoral Commission projects Labor will secure 82 seats in the House of Representatives.

Media outlets including the SMH and ABC have projected Labor will secure closer to 90 seats.

Speaking to supporters this evening, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said: "Australians have chosen to face global challenges the Australian way, looking after each other while building for the future.”

The AEC projects the Coalition will win 37 seats, down from 58 in 2022.

One seat lost is Dutton's, in the Queensland electorate of Dickson.

Speaking to supporters on Saturday night, Dutton said: “I accept full responsibility… there are good members and candidates who have lost their seats, their ambition and I am sorry for that.”

Minor parties and independents

The Greens have said they are likely to lose the seats of Brisbane and Griffith in Queensland, but will wait to see the results in other electorates.

All sitting teal MPs have retained their seats.

Sydney independent MP Dai Le is projected to retain her seat of Fowler.
